Artist Statement & Education

Art is how I create space for myself in the world. Art therapy turns difficult feelings into beauty, offering the opportunity to reclaim experiences in a positive light. As a trauma survivor, art and art therapy have given me the tools and language to explore and embrace my past. My work gives me a voice. When creating art, I feel I can be one hundred percent myself. Depending on my need, my focus can be on the process or on the concept - both are equally valid. Making art grounds me in the here and now.

As a multimedia artist, I enjoy making art pieces with a variety of materials: acrylic, watercolor, canvas, paper, fabric, thread, beads, markers, pastels, colored pencils, and more. I use repurposed materials when applicable, and often experiment with new materials when possible. I embrace using digital art as a design tool throughout my process. I frequently finish an art piece with fiber art as a tribute to my past, showcasing the strong women quilters who raised me.
